Jeff and Kelly Coe hosted the October, 2024 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 13th at their home in Portland. Chris Ackman called the meeting to order, thanked our hosts and welcomed new members Christopher and Bianca Prado.
Our treasury remains solvent. In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meeting hosts and competitions. Our tally of brewing volume for September 2024 was as follows: Chris Ackman – 5 gallons, Jason Fransham – 2 gallons, Andy Vaughn – 15 gallons. YTD totals for 2024: Chris – 17 gallons, Vic Aguilar – 35 gallons, Will Amaya -- 15 gallons, Big Brew – 14 gallons, Walt Crawford– 10 gallons, Jason – 26.75 gallons, John Fulton – 10.5 gallons, Nick Jones – 5 gallons, Mike Kneale/Paul Froeschner – 13 gallons, Wild Bill – 20 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 40 gallons, Jay/Doug/David – 20.5 gallons, Joe Wyatt – 9 gallons. Total for 2024 = 250.75 gallons (452 gallons beer and mead in 2023).
Iron Mash XXI will be held on Saturday, November 2. We will have two teams competing this year, headed by Vic Aguilar and Jay Porterfield. Bay Area Brewing in Rockport will hold a Homebrewing Showcase on Saturday, November 9.
The competition this month was open to any style, with Festbiers receiving double Homebrewer of the Year points. With three competitors, 1st place received 3 HBOY points (doubled for Festbier), 2nd place received 2 HBOY points (doubled for Festbier), 3rd place received 1 HBOY point (doubled for Festbier) and 4th place and above received no HBOY points. Judges’ results were as follows:

As we feasted on nachos, we enjoyed a new homebrew from Jay/Funks (SLP Super Light Pils) and reduced inventory of older homebrews. Interesting commercial beers were offered up by Chris (Sierra Nevada Dank Little Thing Hazy IPA), John Brett (Narrow Guage Rocket Appliance Double Dry Hopped Hazy Imperial IPA), Jason (Labora Hard Day/Old Monk 10,000 Super Beer), Jack Heim (Independence Stash IPA), Jay (Saint Arnold Pumpkinator/Drekker Ectogasm IPA), Mary Kay Schultz (Vista Dark Skies/Vista Blonde) and Andy (Delirium Tremens).
