January 2020 Meeting Minutes

Updated: Mar 11, 2020

The January, 2020 B.A.S.H. meeting was held on Sunday the 12th at the home of Tom and Rocky Freund in Flour Bluff, co-hosted by Aggie Bill and Dianna Hughen.

El Presidente Mike Wojdyla called the meeting to order, thanked our hosts and co-hosts and welcomed new members Martha and Adriana Knight. The treasury remains sound thanks to “KC Walt” Crawford. Vice President of Competitions Jack Heim announced that the 2022 competition schedule is not done, but will be soon. Webmeister Chris Ackman asked people to check out recent updates to the website and give him feedback.

Vice President of Social Events Mary Kay Schultz gave an update on the January social, scheduled for Friday the 24th. We will have a cool one at Brewster’s Street near Whataburger Field at 6:00 p.m., then mosey over to American Bank Center for the 7:00 p.m. Ice Rays hockey game. The Ice Rays links provided in the January meeting announcement do not work. To obtain tickets in the B.A.S.H. section, visit tickets@goicerays.com. In the subject line, enter BASH GROUP. Include your name, the number of tickets desired and a good contact phone number and they will call you back for payment information.

The main order of business was judging the beers brewed during November’s Iron Mash XVI team brewing competition. Results are as follows:

1. Ambashadors – “WTF” Dunkels Weissbier – 38.0/50.

2. (tie) Biker Brewers – American Amber Ale – 32.0/50.

3. (tie) Ambashadors – “WMD” Dunkels Weissbier – 32.0/50.

4. Hoproach – NEIPA – 25.5/50.

The Ambashadors basked in the glory, accepted their bling medals and posed for victory photos (fully clothed, thank Goodness)! These four (Jack Downey, Wild Bill Lehfeld, Kevin Nelson and Phil Sims) are all virgins – that’s right, THEY’VE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE (brewed in Iron Mash, that is)!

We then enjoyed tamales and chili blanco, washed down with the Iron Mash brews, Kevin’s hoppy amber ale and interesting commercial beers from Chris Ackman (Real Ale Commissar), Drew Burkhardt (Lazy Beach Drew’s Deceased Dude/Bay Of Dreams Kombucha), Tim Grace/Mary Kay (Real Ale Real Heavy), Paul Holder (Stone Buenaveza Salt & Lime Lager/Deep Ellum Blind Lemon), Aggie Bill (Austin Eastciders Sangria), Dianna (Moonlight Meadery Avocado Blossom), Martha (Karbach Light Circus) and Cory Mathews (Lazy Beach Coastal Haze IPA/Summer Breeze Hard Kombucha.

All in all, this was the warmest January meeting in fifteen years – the diehards shunned the roaring fire and emptied their coolers while still in their shorts.
