Tim Grace and Mary Kay Schultz hosted the April 2024 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 14th at their condo in downtown Corpus Christi.
President Jack Heim called the meeting to order, thanked our hosts and welcomed new members Shannon and Miranda Buller. Walt Crawford presented the Treasurer’s report. We approved the future competition schedule presented last month by Competition Director Chris Ackman. Mary Kay reported on the upcoming social at Nueces Brewing.
In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meeting hosts and competitions. Our tally of brewing volume for March 2023 was as follows: Wild Bill – 2.5 gallons, Jason Fransham -- 4 gallons. YTD totals for 2024: Chris Ackman – 2 gallons, Vic Aguilar– 10 gallons, Will Amaya -- 15 gallons, Jason Fransham – 9 gallons, Wild Bill – 7.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 10 gallons, Jay Porterfield – 5 gallons. Total for 2024 = 58.5 gallons (452 gallons beer and mead in 2023).
In new business, Wild Bill reported on the five AHA recipes for the upcoming Big Brew 2024. Vic agreed to brew the Dunkel and Chris and Jay volunteered to brew the Dark Ale. The Corpus Christi Beer Festival is Saturday, May 25 and our club will again be serving homebrew.
The competition this month was the Low Gravity Challenge for beers <5% ABV, open to any style. With three competitors, 1st place earns 3 HBOY points (doubled for <5% ABV), 2nd place earns 2 HBOY points (doubled for <5% ABV), 3rd place earns 1 HBOY point (doubled for <5% ABV) and 4th place and beyond earn 0 points. Results are as follows:
Chris – Session IPA (BJCP 21B) – 36.6/50, 6 HBOY points
Wild Bill – “Bleach” Blonde Ale (BJCP 18A) – 36.4/50, 4 HBOY points
Wild Bill – “Dishwater” Blonde Ale (BJCP 18A) – 36.2/50, 2 HBOY points
Jason – Cream Ale (BJCP 1C) – 33/50, 0 HBOY points
Jason – British Golden Ale (BJCP 12A) – 20/50, 0 HBOY points

As we devoured Italian seafood soup, salad and cheese, we enjoyed the competition beers as well as a new homebrew from Joe Wyatt (prickly pear mead). Interesting commercial beers were shared by Chris (Funky Buddha Cosmic Journey Hazy IPA), Vic (Jester King Beer League Kickball Belgian Pale Ale), John Brett (Societe du Chene Stout), Mary Kay (Seldom Beer Company Riveting Rouge Irish Red Ale), Andy Vaughn (Martin House Hakutaku Imperial Rice Stout) and an unknown members’ Family Business Cosmic Cowboy American IPA.
